However energetic you wish your holidays to be, it is certain that the first and foremost thought you have is to relax and unwind. Holidays after all are not only about changing our daily external landscape, but also (and sometimes primarily) about renewing our inner, deeper self.
The Xylokastro region is an ideal area for calming your body and mind. Why? Firstly because of its famous pine forest, the "Pefkias". Secondly because of its more than 3km long beach, running parallel to the pine forest.
Imagine quiet morning walks inside the forest, stopping to sit on the beach and breathe in the fresh sea breeze. Imagine afternoons lying on the border between beach and forest, under an ancient pine, reading your book and smelling the tree's fresh raisin. Finally, imagine the sun setting behing the distant mountain and the colours of the sea and sky turning slowly red, then pink, then light purple, before fading into the night's starry black. And all the while, throught the whole day, imagine the sounds: the birds twittering excitedly as day breaks, the cicades' crescendo as the summer's afternoon heat reaches its peak, then again in the evening the birds preparing to retire for the night and singing to each other love songs...
And don't forget the swimming! The Gulf of Corinth is a sea ideal for swimming. The light current created by the meeting of the Ionian and Aegean seas here (thanks to the man-made canal of Corinth) ensures that the water is constantly renewed and fresh. The pebbly sea bottom is what makes it transparent, thus inviting one to jump inside it as if to embrace it (in Greek we say that it makes you feel you want to drink it in a glass!). And finally, don't forget that Greek waters are safe for swimmers! There are no dangerous sea creatures, no fearsome undercurrents or other bad surprises, just pure, clear water and you!
